Akua Okyere
Akua Okyere is much more than a founder—she's a compassionate guide, a trusted leader, and someone who truly understands what it means to navigate life's biggest changes.
Her journey began with a Bachelor's degree in Psychology and Nursing from the University of Ghana, Legon, followed by an MBA in Management and Analytics from the University of Bridgeport, Connecticut. But it's her passion for helping people move through transitions with clarity and dignity that defines her work today.
From a young age, Akua traveled alone across countries—an experience that sparked her lifelong dedication to providing warm, reassuring companionship during travel, especially at times when it matters most. Having lived and worked across continents, she intimately understands the logistical and emotional challenges families face when making major moves or managing care from a distance.
Professionally, Akua's career began at the International Finance Corporation (IFC), part of the World Bank Group, where she developed a keen eye for detail and a deep understanding of complex systems. She also volunteered with the British Council's Global Exchange Program, teaching elementary students in Ghana and the UK, and served as a care consultant and client advocate.
In her leadership role at the Connecticut Department of Social Services (DSS), Akua earned a reputation for integrity, precision, and responsiveness. Through countless conversations with clients, she recognized a common theme: families needed more than the system could offer—support in relocation, care navigation, travel companionship, and dignified end-of-life planning.
Inspired by these unmet needs, and by her personal experience managing the care and legacy planning of a loved one, Akua founded Wellfareway with a clear mission: to fill those gaps with kindness, clarity, and comprehensive support, ensuring no one faces life's transitions alone.
